  1. I would say that Troy and Lyons have a rocky relationship. I don't think that Troy supports Lyons passion of music. A father should be supportive of his son and Troy isn't. "You living the fast life...wanna be a musician...running around in them clubs...then, you learn to take care of yourself." This quote signifies that Troy believes Lyons will be better off pursuing something else other than music.

  2. I support anwaars response . Troy and Lyon are not on the same page about his studies of music. As a father he feels like it's a waste of time. Which the quote that anwaar used above explaines.

  3. I agree with Anwaar because even from the starting when Lyons greets Troy, he assumes that Lyons only stopped by because it was his payday.implying that Lyons only wants his money. "you telling the truth here. You was in my neighborhood cause its pay day."

  4. I agree with my classmates. Troy and Lyons have a weak relationship. In the play Lyons said, "... I'm thirty-four years old. If you wanted to change me , you should have been there when I was growing up..." It means that Troy, Lyons' father, wasn't present to take care of him when Lyons was younger, so Troy should not have the right to say something about his son's personality.

  5. I also agree with them, i think that Troy doesn't like or support the idea that Lyons has about the music, we can see that he wants something else for his son at the lines" I done learned my mistake and learned to do what's right by it. You still trying to get something for nothing "

  6. I agree with everyone Troy doesn't admire lyons passion towards music he want something more then just a musician for his son. "You living the fast life...wanna be a musician...running around in them clubs...then, you learn to take care of yourself." This quote represents that claim.

  7. I also agree on everyone's analysis of Troy and Lyons relationship and that it isn't the best along with the quote "you living the fast life...wanna be a musician...running around in them clubs...then, you learn to take care of yourself" Mostly it's rough between them because of Lyons career choices and wanting to be a musician which his father does not agree with, causing tension. I also like Beatriz's point of how Troy doesn't really have a right to say where he wants Lyons career to go considering he wasn't there for him a lot.

  8. I agree with annie that even tho they dont agree on the same things they still dont have a good relationship. Lyons is trying to be a musician but Troy doesnt like the fact that Lyons tell him to get a real job. Troy doesnt have the right to say anything because he has never been there for Lyons.

    1. Please read the play and stick to completing your own analysis.

  12. The relationship between Troy and Lyons isn't the best, it's pretty obvious that Lyons isn't supportive with Troy's decision to peruse music he doesn't believe that it will benefit him. As stated back in the play it seems like he wasn't there when Troy was growing up as Liang stated so for him not to support him is a great sorrow.

  13. I agree with everyone that Troy and Lyons don't have a good relationship the quote "Troy, leave your boy alone. He come by to see you and you wanna start all that nonsense" shows the weak relationship they have. I also agree with them while saying that they don't agree on the same things because clearly Troy doesn't agree with the feelings Lyons got for music.

  14. Troys relationship towards Lyons is well but Troy doesn't show any good emotions towards him. Troy wants the best for his son like any dad would. He reminds Troy to get a job. "I can get you on the rubbish if you want to work." But Lyons relationship towards Troy isn't so well because Lyons believes his dad didn't raise him the way he wanted to be and now he can't even receive ten dollars from him. "You can't change me, Pop. If you wanted to change me, you should have been there when I was growing up."

  15. Lyons and Troy doesn't have the most stable relationship. For example, when Lyons said, "' Hey, Pop,'" Troy replied to him, "' What you come 'Hey, Popping' me for?'" It shows how Lyons tried to have a closer relationship but Troy doesn't seem to care much about him.

  16. I believe the relationship between Troy and Lyons is complicated. They don't seem to have a very close relationship. I agree with Beatriz, Troy wasn't there for Lyons growing up which effects their relationship now and why it's hard for them to communicate.

  17. I think Troy and Lyons have good relationship because when Lyons came asking for money Troy was lecturing him about having a stable job. If they didn't have a good relationship with each other Troy would of never cared about what Lyons does with his life. I think he worrys about him "where your next dollar coming from" Troy wants him to have a stable life but Lyons wants to do what makes him happy. I think he uses the fact that Troy wasn't there for him growing up as a way to guilt his dad into giving him the money.

  18. I would characterize the relationship between Troy and Lyone as simply tough love. Troy wants his son to be successful by finding a job. He prefer not to give him money because Troy knows that he is not going to live much longer, based on the constant discussion of death. "You still trying to get something for nothing. Life don't owe you nothing. You owe it to yourself"" Therefore he wants his son to be independent so that he can live successfully as a young adult. I agree with Kevin because it seems like Lyons still has some negative feeling towards his father for not having a normal childhood.

    1. I agree with Quoc. I think that Troy and lyons have rusty but very strong relationship. Although the way they talk to each other could seem as coming off rude, I think its just their way of talking to one another and its what keeps them closer together. I think that Troy just wants to see Lyons acting more mature and doing more productive things like getting a job and not having to come and ask for money.

  19. I think that Troy's relationship with Lyon is shaky and non supportive. This is because Troy believes that Lyon is just wasting his money on his career as a musician (pg 18). He believes that he should get a "real" job so that he can at least by himself something to eat without having to rely on others to give him money (pg18). I agree with some of my classmates that this Troy trying to show tough love towards Lyons since he doesn't want to just give him the money without earning it, but even then, Troy still mistreats him by saying "What you come "Hey, Popping" me for" (pg 13), which shows that he doesn't approve of him calling him pop even though he is his son.

  20. I would say that Troy and Lyons realtionship is not good becuase Troy doesnt like that Lyon is passionate about music. For instance Troy says, "You living the fast life...wanna be a musician...running around in them clubs...then, you learn to take care of yourself."

  21. I would say th relationship between Troy and Lyons is severely damaged and they seem to be openly disappointed in one another, Troy about Lyons lack of a career because of his love for music, and Lyons about Troy's lack of a fatherly presence during his youth.
