How would you characterize Troy?

15 comments:

  1. The characterization of Troy is that he is a responsible, talkative, and a hard working man. His friend, BONO, is indulged by him. However, Troy is somewhat uneducated due to the fact he uses ignorant words, but I'm guessing using those slangs are ok during that time period.

  2. I agree with Sarah. Troy is a honest, talkative, strong and hard-working man. He also stood up for something he wants. In the play Troy and Bono had a conversation about black men not getting to drive the truck and how Troy filed a complaint. He wants equality with white men to drive the trucks instead of white men driving and black men lifting.

  3. I agree with Sarah and Annie. Troy is honesty, hard-working man, and believes that white and black men can have equal opportunities. He also said, "I'm talking about if you could play ball then they ought to have let you play. Don't care what color you were." It means that the skin color does not make a man to be a better player.

  4. I agree with everyone above I would characterize Troy as a hardworking man and very strong. Troy is man of equality he wants equal and same opportunities as others and nothing different. Also he doesn't believe skin color should interfere with that request.

  5. I agree with everyone's comments' on Troy. Troy is a hardworking man and wants to see a change in the way colored people are treated in response to whites. Troy wants the same privileges as whites. For example Troy said, "Give everybody a chance to drive the truck". Troy doesn't want is skin to reflect on his abilities to work.

  6. Troy is very determined and a hard working person which is what my classmates above have stated aswell. However , in the story there is racism involved which leads to ignorance. Bono and Troy both have their beliefs. Troys beliefs is to have equality.

  7. I agree with everyone about Troy's characteristics. He is indeed a honest and hard-working man. He hopes he can be allowed to play baseball without anyone discriminating him because of his skin tone.

  8. Troy is hard-working, strong, and he is the man of the house. Troy is the centerpiece in the household. He works really hard for his family to support their life.

  9. Troy is a man, that is highly hard working, very determined man. He keeps the house together and always makes sure his family is well treated. Although along in the story racism comes into play, making him feel a little insecure about what he wants to do such as basketball

  10. Troy has strong personality, his friend, Bono looks up to him for his honesty and strength. Rose, his wife love that he treats her right and cares about his family, "her devotion to him stems from her recognition of the possibilities of her life without him: a succession of abusive men and their babies". He also likes to stand up for what he thinks is right, everyone being able to drive the trucks and continuing buying from Bella's shop because she treats him nice.

  12. I would characterize Troy as hard working, strong, devoted, and determined. As the others said, he believes that even though there is racism, everyone should be treated equally and not to be judged on their race.

  13. I would characterize Troy as uneducated, but also selfless and visionary. Based on his speech, "All I want to do is change the job description. Give everybody a chance to drive the truck. Brownie can't see that." Troy's choice of words are interesting because he seems like he does not understand what racism is. However he does understand that Brownie's ideology is immoral. I agree with what Annie said because Troy takes action in what he believes in and always persevere, despite understanding the consequence such as getting fired.

    1. Very good analysis! His diction is interesting and I agree that he is a visionary of sorts. However, I think he understands exactly what racism is.
