In Act two, scene four, on page 85, (CORY starts to maneuver his way past TROY. TROY grabs his leg and shoves him back) "TROY: I ain’t asked if you was scared of me. I asked you if you was fixing to walk over top of me in my own house? That’s the question. You ain’t gonna say excuse me? You just gonna walk over top of me? CORY: If you wanna put it like that." This essential quote and motion dialect, exemplifies how Troy mistreats Cory; in which is the same way Troy's father used to treat him as a child, (by both verbal and physical abuse). One can say that the apple doesn't fall too far the tree. This mistreatment is downgrading Troy as a character.
In act II scene III, I think Troy was mean and aggressive to Cory. The quotes that Sarah used represents Troy's attitudes through Cory. "Cory starts to maneuver his way past Troy. Troy grabs his leg and shoves him back." This quote represents that Troy is being aggressive to Cory in some way. Troy is like his own father in some ways, because Troy's father was strict to him like Troy is to Cory. Troy wants Cory to do his work exactly how he wants to be done otherwise he will get mad at Cory as Troy's Father will get mad at Troys when he was a teenager. Troy was scared at his father, the same way Cory was scared at Troy through the play.
Troy is hard on Cory. The quote that Sarah used shows how even if Cory does something little like not saying excuse me, it sets Troy off. He has a short tempor. Troy, like his father, is aggressive.
In Act ll scene ll, Troy is Insolent. He has no respect towards his family members. I believe the way he treats Cory is how enemies treat one another. He has no care for him, which is sad. I believe Troy learned how to act this way by the actions of his father towards him. Troy has no power over anyone except Cory so I believe that's the reason for his aggression. " Yeah I'm crazy! If you don't get on the other side of that yard...I'm gonna show you how crazy I am! Go on...get the hell out of my yard." This quote signifies how Troy is trying to put fear in Cory and getting him to leave.
In Act II Scene III Troy is incredibly abusive towards Cory not only mentally but physically as well. It's stated that "Cory starts to maneuver his way past Troy. Troy grabs his leg and shoves him back" this is the example of his physical abuse. I find the treatment disgusting and I think Troy should be ashamed of himself being someone who endured abuse as a child from his own father and then passing along the pain to his own child. He is just like his father and cannot handle his aggression and it's very sad to see the altercation occur.
Troy is highly aggressive towards Cory. Also relating towards kassem's example, it shows how physical Troy can get with Cory. Troy, in my opinion, has huge anger management issues. He needs to learn how control his anger and the way he treats people.
I agree with everyone above Troy is very hard on Cory. The quote that Sarah used above demonstrates how he's hard. Troy is acting very aggressive towards him for the littlest things. I also agree with Derick that he needs improve on how to control his anger and the way he expresses it as well.
I agree that Troy was mean and aggressive to Cory. I also agree with them that Troy needs to control his anger, and the way he treats others. I think that the way that Troy's father used to treat him as a child has much to do in the way he acts.
Troy is very aggressive towards Cory, I feel that he takes out a lot of anger on him. He talked about the way his dad treated him, but acts the same way he did. It is like history is repeating it self; Troy hated his dad, Troys mom ran away from his dad, and he left after they had a physical fight. Cory explains that he was always scared of his dad and he felt restricted to do anything because Troy would have something to say about it, he also says his mom felt the same way, he wondered how she delt with him for so long. After they fought Cory left the house , this is all similar to what happened with Troy.
I feel like Troy treats Cory in a aggressive way only because Troy believes that Cory is now an adult. "You a man. Now, let's see you act like one." Troy is like his father in some ways because Troy seems like he's not part of the family anymore just like how Troy's father was isolated from his family.
After reading Act II, Scene IV, it is clear that Troy and Cory hatred for each other has heightened. Troy is definitely hostile to Cory, but at the same time, Cory is also hostile to his dad. They were both ready to argue and ready to fight. I do not feel bad for Cory nor Troy because they both played a selfish route, like Troy's dad. For instance, Troy was selfish because he forced Cory to quit his dream job, and Cory was selfish because he believes he is superior to his dad. Yes, Troy has cause hardship to Cory, but Cory does not seem the positive aspect of his dad's presence; he only thinks of the negative aspect. As stated, "You ain't never gave me nothing! You ain't never done nothing but hold me back. Afraid I was gonna be better than you" (86). This statement by Cory sums up his hatredness and self-centered that he is. I believe one day, Cory will be just like Troy and Troy's dad, like father and son.
I feel as though Troy treats Cory as a someone who is inferior to him. This is because during this scene, Troy tells Cory "you ain't say excuse me? You just gonna walk over top of me?"(pg 85) which shows that he demands respect and dominance. In a way, Troy is like his father because his father also pushed people away from him, just like Troy is doing now. Troy's father also mistreated Troy to the point that he was forced to leave the house, and this is exactly what happened in this scene between Cory and Troy.
I feel like Troy thinks that he is higher than Cory. He is a higher rank than a fatherly figure. Its a sense a hatred from both Troy and Cory. I have a feeling that Cory might end up like Troy but, not as selfish.
I agree with all, first of all Troy is acting very aggressive with And mean with Cory. I don't think that this is because he has a lot of problems in his life but he thinks that he can do whatever he wants to and in my opinion Cory does't deserve that
Troys aggressiveness is leading to others not wanting to conversate with him. He's being very mean to Cory. Which he doesn't deserve . Due to the problems that Troy is going through he is basically taking his anger out on the wrong Person .

Great textual evidence. It is true that Troy is perhaps too much like his father, but it is important to remember that was all he had to emulate.

ReplyDeleteI agree. It makes one very angry to read this scene and also makes one feel sorry for Cory. This is definitely not a warm and fuzzy play.
