I believe August Wilson Juxtaposes the new immigrants to America with the African Americans because they weren't offered any welcome. The African Americans traveled from many places such as Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. They were eager to find a place to settle in.
I 100% agree with Anwaar. The author used this strategy to compare African Americans to immigrants to show how they are somewhat equals. Both immigrants and African Americans have no acceptance in where they want to settle. Both goes through the same amount of hardship and struggles.
I agree with Anwara and Sarah, the author wanted the reader to see how Hard it was for immigrants and African American to settle and how they were treated.
I think that the author juxtaposed the new immigrants to America with the African immigrants to compare the way they were treated by the cities. The cities rejected them, so the new immigrants and the African immigrants were struggling to settle.
I think that August Wilson juxtaposes these two groups because they were both outcasted, so they both had to try to find somewhere to settle and they had to work hard in order to live. I agree with Beatriz because the immigrants and the African Americans did have trouble settling due to the fact that they weren't wanted in the city.
I think that the author juxtaposes the new immigrants to the African Americans because they were treated somewhat the same as Shara said, the people in the city did not treat the new immigrants and the African Americans the same as they treated the residence so I think there was a comparison happening between the two groups.
I agree with Jolinas, because the the immagrants were welcomed within whereas the African Americans were not. Although both groups have trouble settling in and being able to make a life for themselves, the African Americans have a harder time since they have to deal with racism form society that has repeatedly rejected them
I think the author juxtaposes the new immigrants to the African Americans to create a comparison between the way they were treated and lived by the cities. Which is what Beatriz was explaining further more
I think that the author juxtaposed the new immigrants to America with the African immigrants to show the way they were treated by the cities. Also the cities never accepted them which meant the new immigrants and the African immigrants were always having a hard time trying to settle
I think that August Wilson juxtaposes the new immigrants to America with the African Americans because there's a similarity between the African Americans and the new immigrants experiences in America at that time.
Despite everyone's beliefs, I feel that August Wilson juxtaposes the new immigrants to America with the African Americans to show the contrast in their end result. The new immigrants and the African Americans were both fiercely determined, yet in the end, the outcomes were very different. The new immigrants were easily accepted into the city, and had no hardship, unlike the African-Americans. The African-Americans were completely rejected, most likely due to their skin color. The phrase, “… and in quiet desperation and vengeful pride, they stole, and lived in pursuit of their own dream” clearly shows the distress that African-American go through to survive. Therefore Wilson juxtaposes these two groups to show how African-Americans experience great deprivation simply because of their background.
Quoc, beautiful analysis and dead-on. I like the evidence from the text you chose to back up your analysis. Wilson's diction takes us down a path on which the immigrants did not have to tread.
I think August Wilson juxtaposes the new immigrants with African Americans to almost compare and contrast them. They both have many similarities being people of color and wanting to be accepted. But they contrast because only the immigrants are really accepted in the city.
I think that August Wilson compares the European immigrants to the African Americans to show how the African Americans have been mistreated and how races are still segregated. Europeans were able to land "thousands" of opportunities and establish good paying jobs. On the other hand African Americans have been rejected and have been forced to flee the city in live poor infrastructures.
I think Wilson compares the European immigrants to the African Americans to show that they both struggled however Europeans were more likely to get work they were good at while African usually always did physical labor.

Deletei also agree with Sarah and Anwaar, the author did that to make an equality between both of them that`s why he compare the african to immigrats
DeleteBoth groups struggle, but do you see a difference when comparing their struggles?

DeleteVery true. While both groups struggle; the African Americans have a more difficult struggle due to racism.
